The War on Terrorism or War on Terror are the common terms for the military, political, legal and ideological conflict against Islamic terrorism and Muslim militants, and specifically used in reference to operations by the United States, since the September 11, 2001 attacks.
The stated objectives of the war are to protect US territory, break up terrorist cells in the US, and disrupt the activities of the international network of terrorist organizations made up of a number of groups under the umbrella of al-Qaeda.
Both the term and the policies it denotes have been a source of ongoing controversy, as critics argue it has been used to justify unilateral preemptive war, human rights abuses and other violations of international law.
Alternative theories postulate that the Global War On Terror is part of a global false-flag operation designed to increasing governmental control of all civilian populations by increasing their level of perceived threat at home, work and in all forms of mass transit. A related aspect of such theories claim that the Global War On Terror is also part of an attempt to consolidate control of international narcotics production and districbution. Collectively, these theories cite 9/11 and the bombings in London, Madrid, Bali, Mumbai, as well as many other carefully orchestrated "terrorist attacks" as the keystone operations in alleviating public resistance to increasly fascist governmental control, regulation and elimination of civic & human rights worldwide.
