DEAD SEA SCROLLS

The Dead Sea Scrolls consist of roughly 900 documents, including texts from the Hebrew Bible, discovered between 1947 and 1956 in eleven caves in and around the Wadi Qumran near the ruins of the ancient settlement of Khirbet Qumran, on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea.

Written in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, and dating between 150 B.C to 70 A.D., the texts are of great religious and historical significance, as they include some of the only known surviving copies of Biblical documents made before 100 A.D., and preserve evidence of considerable diversity of belief and practice within late Second Temple Judaism.

Publication of the scrolls has taken many decades, and the delay has been a source of academic controversy.  Because they are frequently described as important to the history of the Bible, the scrolls are surrounded by a wide range of conspiracy theories ranging from the true nature and history of the Nephilim ( The giant, Angelic "Sons of God" that interbred with the human "Daughters of Men", as stated in the Holy Bible. )

The delay in publishing the scrolls also fueled rumors that the privileged few who did have access to them were working with the Vatican to suppress the findings because they undermined Christian doctrine.
