Beliefs in extraterrestrial life may have been present in ancient India, Egypt, Arabia, China, Babylon, Assyria and Sumer, although in these societies, cosmology was often associated with supernatural, and the notion of alien life is difficult to distinguish from that of gods, demons, and such.
The first important Western thinkers to argue systematically for a universe full of other planets and, therefore, possible extraterrestrial life were the ancient Greek writer Thales and his student Anaximander in the 7th and 6th centuries B.C. The atomists of Greece took up the idea, arguing that an infinite universe ought to have an infinity of populated worlds.
Modern scientific perspective on extraterrestrial life are best summed up in The drake equation, developed by University of California astrophysicist dr. Frank Drake. his equation statistically states that there are an estimated 10,000 planets containing intelligent life, with the possible capability of communicating with Earth in the Milky Way galaxy.
Some researchers report that as of today there are over 50 different races of extraterrestrial beings or extraterrestrial biological entities ( E.B.E.) visiting or occupying Earth.
